The Challenges of Working-From-Home, Related Mental Health Issues, and Solutions

Working from home is not a holiday.

For many people, this work situation is quite the opposite and can have a negative impact on mental health.

What are the most common problems while having a work-from-home job?

The most common problems that people face can go from burnout to stress, depression, anxiety insomnia, and isolation.

Today we will discuss the solutions to possible cases of burnout, anxiety, stress, and isolation

What are the solutions to these problems for your mental health?

To avoid burnout during prolonged periods of working-from-home it is crucial to make a clear separation between work and spare time. Just because you’re now working from home doesn’t mean you don’t have leisure time anymore. You have to make a schedule with regular breaks and a specific time at which you start your working day and a specific time at which you end your working day.

To avoid being anxious or stressed during your work-from-home job, it is essential that you provide a space of your own for work. This space should be a private space where you cannot be disturbed by other people, even the members of your family. You are responsible for keeping this workspace well ordered. This is very important because chaotic workspaces are stressful while neat workspaces give a feeling of control and peace. It is also important that you install some verdure in this workspace, at least one bonsai or another plant of your choice. A green space puts you in contact with nature, which is beneficial for your well-being. Before or after your working day, it is also crucial that you work out for at least half an hour to an hour a day.

If you start to maintain only virtual relationships with co-workers and friends while working from home you will quickly feel lonely, and isolated. It is, therefore, preferable to maintain regular contact with your friends outside of your working hours. Continue to visit them regularly and invite them to your home. Actually, it would be much better to do regular activities together, such as exercise outdoors.

If you don’t have the time to visit loved ones after work, you should know that there are many relaxing activities you can do at home that are great for your mental health.  Those activities are: listening to music, playing an instrument, bathing, cooking, reading a book, taking a nap, painting or drawing, yoga, meditating.

I think that you understood the big picture: by maintaining a balanced life rhythm and active social life, you will avoid mental health issues. It is beneficial to maintain a regular schedule, take regular breaks, have a balanced diet, play sports, spend time outdoors, take time for yourself regularly, get enough sleep, and have social contact at least a few times a week.
